Diaspora Skills Transfer Program for Southern Sudan

Background
With the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in January 2005, Southern Sudan is undergoing a profound transformation, consolidating the peace while moving forward on a path of development. One of the major challenges is a shortage of skilled human resources to manage the development process and fill critical functions.

There is also a wide gap between men and women in skilled professional positions, particularly in the area of education as well as a large gap between girls’ and boys’ attendance and completion levels. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) hopes to reduce this gap and dramatically increase the participation of young girls in primary education.

Qualified Southern Sudanese volunteers from the Diaspora are sought to assist in the development of polices and plans to achieve this goal. Multiple assignments are available for this task description in all 10 states and the three transition areas:

  • 007: ENGLISH TEACHERS FOR HEALTH AND EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS
  • 008: MENTOR, SOUTHERN SUDAN INTERACTIVE RADIO INSTRUCTION PROJECT
  • 009: OUTREACH WORKERS FOR SOUTHERN SUDAN INTERACTIVE RADIO INSTRUCTION PROJECT
  • 010: MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ADVISORS
  • 011: EDUCATIONAL PLANNING AND EVALUATION ADVISOR

  • Qualifications
    Candidates should have an advanced degree in education, social work, gender studies or related field and possess several years of experience working in an educational environment and/or with policy formulation and advocacy fields. Other qualifications include:

    • Excellent command of English language, both spoken and written
    • Sensitivity towards different needs and backgrounds of training participants
    • Able to work with flexibility in sometimes challenging environment

    Institutional Host:
    MoEST Department of General Education, Juba.
    Volunteer will travel occasionally to support State Ministries of Education throughout Southern Sudan, and will report to the Department Director

    Duration
    The assignments are from 3 to 6 months.
